String Value Expressions

A string value expression is an expression that evaluates to a character string using some combination of direct references to CHAR or VARCHAR columns, string literals, and string functions. The concatenation operator ( || ) is used to combine the string value expression primaries (as described here). The maximum size of the result string is 4056 characters.

For example, the following expression

UPPER ('hello' || 'world')

returns the result string "HELLOWORLD".
