To deliver on the promise of analytic information on a enterprise scale, data must be accessible to all users who would benefit from that access. Today’s analytic applications demand high concurrent user populations significantly higher than Business Intelligence and Reporting applications.
When a query that visits every row in a table, a lock-based scheduler read all the rows, decreasing concurrency and blocking users. SAND’s solution is Advanced Concurrency Control, for high concurrency, mixed-workload queries inherent in data warehousing. Generation-based (GBCC), it gives users the power to read and write to the database without the penalty incurred by a lock-based system.
No locks. No limits.
GBCC defines two states of the database — public or private. Public generations are transactions successfully committed. Private generations are currently executing transactions. GBCC delivers transaction isolation, providing concurrency using versioning rather than locking. GBCC insures short-running transactions are not affected by long-running transactions. With no locks, read-only transactions are unaffected by other transactions. GBCC ensures maximum concurrency with increasing transaction volumes, delivering access to all users who need ad hoc, high-perfomance data.
